You can make planning poetry lessons much, much easier using this fantastic website.

Simply choose the age of the children you teach (from EYFS to KS5) to access a good range of lesson plans. You can even search for lesson plans with a specific theme or that incorporate a particular technique.

I discovered a lesson plan called Wide Open: Teaching Grammar with Poetry which was designed to help Year 3 and 4 children learn grammar terminology. What a wonderful idea!

For KS1 I found a lesson plan called Anyone Seen My Dragon? This funny poem will make the children laugh out loud. The children then adapt the poem to create their own one about another animal e.g. a cat.

Lesson plans are clearly written and many of them include worksheets.

Overall, a highly recommended website.
